Pop music is generally understood to recorded music for commercial purposes, often aimed at a youthful audience and which mostly consists of relatively short and simple songs with the use of technological innovations. According to Grove Music Online, the term '' music pop '' was created in the UK in the mid-1950s with a description for the rock and roll and the new youth musical styles that influenced him. Since 1967 the term was increasingly used in opposition to the rock, a division which generated a general meaning to the two expressions.
